When a Story Finds You
🖋️📚✨
Have you ever picked up a book expecting one kind of story and ended up discovering something completely different?
Maybe you thought you were reading a romance, but found yourself thinking about friendship. Maybe you opened a mystery and became fascinated by the characters instead of the crime. Or perhaps a seemingly simple story stayed with you because it touched a part of your life you hadn't expected.
That’s one of my favorite things about books.
We choose the story, but sometimes the story chooses us right back.
From the Writer’s Desk ✍🏾
This week, I’m continuing to spend time with my writing—developing ideas, revisiting characters, and allowing stories to unfold naturally.
One thing I’m learning more and more as a writer is that stories need room to breathe.
There are moments when I want to rush toward the finished manuscript, but the creative process doesn't always work that way. Sometimes a character needs another conversation. Sometimes a scene needs to be rewritten. Sometimes an idea needs to sit quietly in the back of your mind until you finally understand where it belongs.
So this week’s writing reminder is:
Progress doesn't have to be loud to be real.
A few sentences can be progress.
A new idea can be progress.
Opening your notebook after a long break can be progress.
And yes—even thinking about the story while you're washing dishes counts. 😉
Let’s Talk Books 📖
One of the things I love discussing with other readers is the books that surprised us.
Not necessarily books that had shocking plot twists, but books that became more meaningful than we expected.
Sometimes a character unexpectedly becomes our favorite. Sometimes a setting feels so real that we wish we could visit it. Sometimes a book introduces us to an idea we carry with us long after we've finished reading.
Those are the stories I treasure most.
The ones that quietly follow us out of the pages.
The ones we think about days—or even years—later.
Because maybe the true magic of a book isn't simply finishing it.
Maybe it's realizing that a little piece of the story came home with you.
A Little InkHaven Thought 💭
Every writer begins with a blank page.
Every reader begins with a first page.
And somewhere between those two moments, an entire world can come alive.
That's pretty incredible when you think about it.
A handful of words can make us laugh, cry, dream, remember, hope, and sometimes even see our own lives a little differently.
So whether you're writing your first sentence or opening your hundredth book, I hope you remember to enjoy the journey.
There is magic in the beginning.
There is magic in the middle.
And sometimes, there is even magic in starting again.
